Blue Lines

Last night was cloudy and free of worries
Yet I’m aching like nearly every clear morning

I see jagged yellows across the skies
Covered by smooth blue lines

I hear the birds from outside: my ears perk up when they sing
They sound beautiful, but the train will be here soon

So much noise and risk
You mustn’t be on its tracks or mustn’t miss it

Some days after the train passes I sleep
I hate that I do this; I wish my ears would perk up when it passes

Loud as it is, I should smile
I forget: it means the birds will be singing soon!
